
Rockford, Ill. - The Elgin Community College volleyball team finished 2-4 at the Opening Weekend Tournament last weekend.
Match 1: Elgin 0, Southeastern 3
Leah Murphy led the group with seven kills as Mackenzie Field and Cassie Pitte collected four apiece. Pitte also tallied a team-high seven digs.
The team fell 25-21, 25-19 and 25-9 in three sets.
Match 2: Elgin 2, Ellsworth 3
Field led the team in kills with 15 as Murphy recorded 11. Pitte registered a team-high 17 digs with Murphy and Cece Gonzales tallying 13 and 12, respectively. Gonzales also led the team in assists with 19.
The Spartans won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-15, but were unable to maintain momentum as they fell in the final three sets.
Match 3: Elgin 0, Lincoln Trail 3
Murphy led the team in kills (9) and blocks (3). Pitte tallied a team-high six digs and was second in kills with six. Jadyn Booz-Bruce led the team with 17 assists.
ECC fell 20-25, 24-26 and 15-25 in three sets.
Match 4: Elgin 1, Lake Michigan 3
The team was edged 18-25 in the first set, won the second set 25-23 and fell in the final two sets.
Match 5: Elgin 3, Marian 1
Murphy led the team in kills (14) and digs (13). Booz-Bruce recorded a team-best 20 assists.
The Spartans clinched wins in the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-17, fell 18-25, and pushed through for a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
Match 6: Elgin 3, Bay 0
ECC won in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-23.
The Spartans host Harper in its home opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
