Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener

Elgin, Ill., Sept. 9, 2021 - The Elgin Community College men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 win over McHenry County on Thursday.

The Spartans move to 1-2 as the Scots drop to 2-2.

ECC held possession for most of the first, but were unable to capitalize on a corner in the third and a penalty kick in the eighth.

Cameron Kruk scored the first goal of the game, and his first of the season, at 11:24 with a cross from Kobe Frenette to take the early 1-0 lead.

Jose Banuelos took the penalty kick from just a few yards out and drove it into the lower left of the net for the 2-0 lead to end the first half.

The Scots found its lone goal of the game in the 78th minute from a close penalty kick to tighten it up to 2-1. Despite the continued shots on goal from both teams, the game would end with the Spartans first win of the season.

Carlos Ibarra recorded a team-high four shots, Banuelos tallied three, and Josh Madsen, Kruk and Frenette each tallied two.

Harvey Partida registered eight saves on goal.
