Madison Edges Men's Basketball

Elgin, Ill., Nov. 6, 2021 – The Elgin Community College men's basketball team opened home competition with a 68-66 loss to Madison Area Technical College on Saturday.

The Spartans and Wolfpack move to 1-1 in their respective seasons.

Jordan Wilkins posted a team-best 20 points, six assists and three steals in 36 minutes of play to lead the team. Justin Henderson grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.

ECC struggled to connect shots in the first five minutes as Madison led by 14-0. After taking a full timeout, Luke Difrancesca put the first Spartan points on the board from a turnaround jump shot at 4:45.

Two more shots followed to tighten the score to 14-6 as the Spartans continued to trail by at least seven points until the final five minutes of the half.

Elgin scored seven unanswered points with buckets from Aaron Hawthorne, Erron Bryant, and Dorien Little's first free throw. Little missed his second attempt, but Selle Dime grabbed the offensive rebound and scored for the final points and to enter the second half trailing 32-30.

The Spartans took their first lead of the game in the second possession of the game with a three-pointer from Wilkins.

The game continued to go nearly back and forth, but the Wolfpack hit a seven-point scoring streak to gain an edge five minutes in.

ECC spent the next few minutes tightening up the score, including Wilkins grabbing a steal and a dunk from Glamoc to tie the game up at 48-48.

The Spartans remained trailing by just a few points, but were never able to gain an edge as Madison pulled off the 68-66 win.

ECC hosts the Judson University junior varsity team on Monday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
