Spartans Win 11-Inning Thriller

Oconomowoc, Wis. - The Elgin Community College baseball team beat Bryant & Stratton in 11 innings on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 11-6 in their overall record.

Jack Kerno singled in the bottom of the first and scored on Daniel Blickhan's double to center field for the first run of the game.

BSC scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie it up 1-1.

Chris Lara led off the second inning with a walk, followed by singles from Andrew Flynn and Matthew Brunscheen to load the bases. Carter Novelli earned a walk to push a run across and Nick Weaver hit a grand slam to lead 6-1 after two innings.

The Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the third to tighten the game up to 6-4.

Kerno walked in the fourth, advanced to second on Blickhan's groundout and scored on a passed ball during Aiden Kashuba's at bat.

Bryant & Stratton pushed one run across in the fifth inning to trail by two.

Kerno hit a solo homer to left field for ECC's eighth run of the game but BSC tied it up 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth.

Jim Bluemling pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth innings and allowed no hits and no runs.

Cole Clemens doubled in the top of the 11th inning and scored on Lara's single to center field.

Aidan Stratton came in for relief and earned the win after pitching the final two innings with nothing allowed.

The Spartans host Morton for their conference opener on Saturday at noon.
