
Normal, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games to No. 7 Heartland on Monday.
The Spartans move to 8-2 in their overall season.
Game One: ECC 4, Heartland 5
The game remained scoreless through three innings with Josh Caccia on the mound.
Aiden Kashuba was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a line drive from Cole Clemens in the fourth. Daniel Blickhan doubled to push two runs across for a 2-0 advantage.
Matthew Brunscheen led off the fifth with a double to center field. Jaden Alberson's groundout advanced Brunscheen to third and he scored on a wild pitch during Chris Lara's at bat. Lara earned a walk, stole second and made it home on Jack Kerno's double to increase the lead to 4-0.
Heartland countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 ballgame. The Spartans were unable to score as the Hawks earned two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the close game.
Game Two: ECC 0, Heartland 11
Troy Petty made the start with Leth Pearson and Sean Riordan coming in for relief. Pearson recorded two strikeouts in 1.2 innings and Riordan struckout one batter in one inning.
Nick Weaver and Andrew Flynn registered one hit apiece.
The Spartans are back on the road to face Triton in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
