Spartans Fall in Regular Season Finale

South Holland, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team was edged 4-3 by South Suburban on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans end the regular season with a 28-20 record.

Casey Farrell pitched six innings and recorded three strikeouts. Aidan Stratton came in for relief in 2.2 innings and recorded one K.

Josh Genz registered a team-high two RBI with Aiden Kashuba bringing in one. Charlie Jury, Nick Weaver and Patrick Nelson scored each of the runs.

South Suburban struck first to lead 1-0 through four innings.

Jury led off the fifth with a single and advanced to second on Josh Collins' sacrifice. Genz hit an RBI single to tie it up 1-1.

The Bulldogs scored two in the sixth to take back the lead at 3-1.

Nelson walked and Jury singled, followed by another sacrifice from Collins for each to advance a base. Genz's groundout pushed Nelson home to tighten it up to 3-2 after seven innings.

Weaver led off the eighth with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout from Jack Kerno. Andrew Flynn singled to push Weaver to third base. Kashuba hit it into a sacrifice fly to tie the game up again.

The game ended on a heartbreaker as SSC scored on an error to clinch the win.

The Spartans compete in the Region 4 Tournament Quarterfinal at Kankakee this weekend. They play Highland on Friday at 9 a.m. and Kankakee at noon.
