
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team secured a 12-0 victory over Joliet on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 26-17 in their overall season.
Edgar Barba pitched a shutout game as he recorded seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Jack Kerno recorded four RBI and one run as Chris Lara tallied three RBI and two runs.
Kerno put the first run on the board in the first inning with his fourth home run of the season.
Patrick Nelson led off the second with a single and scored on Daniel Blickhan's double to right field. Josh Collins was hit by a pitch to get on base and Lara sacrificed to push Nelson and Collins ahead. Nick Weaver hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game after two innings.
Andrew Flynn singled and Aiden Kashuba reached on an error to start out the third inning. Nelson hit a one-run single and Kashuba scored on Collins' RBI single. Lara hit his second triple of the seson to bring two more runs across. Weaver walked and during Kerno's single, Lara scored and Weaver advanced to third before advancing on the throw to extend the lead to 9-0.
Collins led off the fifth with a single followed by a double from Lara. Weaver hit it into a sacrifice fly for Collins to score followed by Kerno's RBI single to lead 11-0 after five innings.
ECC loaded the bases with walks from Nelson and Julian Sturtevant and a single from Charlie Jury. Lara hit a sacrifice fly to push the 12th and final run across and to clinch the 12-0 victory.
The Spartans host Kankakee for Sophomore Night on Thursday at 3 p.m.
