Spartans Sweep Moraine Valley

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team swept Moraine Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 25-16 overall and 10-4 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play.

These wins clinched ECC a Conference runner-up finish.

Game One: MVCC 4, ECC 15

Patrick Nelson led the offense with four RBI and three runs and his sixth home run of the season. Five players scored two runs apiece in the high-scoring game.

Lucas Aguirre picked up his fifth win on the mound, registering three strikeouts in four innings.

Elgin scored four runs in the first and seven in the following inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead after two innings.

Moraine Valley scored four its four runs in the top of the fourth.

The Spartans countered with one in the bottom of the inning. Nelson hit the walk-off three-run homer to 10-run rule the Cyclones in five innings.

Game Two: MVCC 6, ECC 15

Noah Schlup also secured his fifth win of the season. Aiden Kashuba registered three RBI and two runs as three others tallied two RBI.

ECC took another huge advantage as they scored 11 runs in the first inning and two in the second.

MVCC scored two in the third and four in the fourth to tighten it up to a 13-6 deficit.

Elgin scored two in the bottom of the inning to add to its 15-6 lead.

Sean Riordan struckout the three batters he faced in the fifth. Daniel Kinney recorded two strikeouts in the sixth and two in the seventh to clinch the victory.

The Spartans face Triton in a single game on Monday at 3 p.m.
