Spartans Win Four in a Row

Chicago Heights, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team won a pair of games against Prairie State on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 21-13 overall and 8-2 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play.

Game One: ECC 7, PSC 1

Edgar Barba registered his third win of the season. He pitched seven innings and recorded five strikeouts.

Charlie Jury scored two runs with six other plays recording one RBI each.

Daniel Blickhan led off the second with a walk, stole second and scored on Josh Collins' hit.

ECC loaded the bases on Aiden Kashuba's single, Jury reached on an error and Blickhan hit by a pitch. Josh Genz hit a one-run single and Chris Lara earned an RBI walk to take the 3-0 lead after three innings.

Jury doubled and Blickhan hit his first collegiate triple to add another run to the board.

Andrew Flynn was hit by a pitch and Jury's single right field advanced Flynn to third and he scored on a wild pitch.

Prairie State scored its sole run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Genz walked and Collins singled to start the seventh. Lara's sacrifice advanced the runners to second and third with Nick Weaver hitting a sac fly to push Genz home. Jack Kerno hit an RBI single for the seventh and final run.

Elgin saw three up and three down in the bottom of the inning to clinch the 7-1 victory.

Game Two: ECC 20, PSC 11

The bats were hot as four players recorded two or more RBI. Kerno led the team with five as Flynn registered four. Lara led the team in runs with four.

Noah Schlup picked up his fourth win of the season, striking out three batters in five innings.

Prairie State scored four runs in the second to take an early lead.

The Spartans countered in the top of the third with three runs. Lara and Weaver singled and Kerno earned a walk to load the bases. Lara scored on a wild pitch as Flynn's groundout sent Weaver home. Kashuba grounded out to push Kerno home.

PSC scored one in the bottom of the inning.

Three walks, a single and a sacrifice fly scored two runs for ECC to tie it up in the fourth.

The Spartans host Bryant & Stratton for a doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
