
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team swept Olive Harvey in a pair of games on Friday.
The Spartans improve to 19-13 in their overall season.
Game One: OHC 4, ECC 14
Charlie Jury, Jack Kerno and Patrick Nelson each hit homeruns to total eight RBI. Andrew Sloan earned his second win of the season, pitching one inning and tallying one strikeout.
Olive Harvey struck early with two runs in the top of the first.
Nelson led off the second inning with a solo homer. Jury was hit by a pitch, Daniel Blickhan singled and Chris Lara walked to load up the bases. Jack Kerno hit it into a three-run single to take the lead at 4-2.
The Panthers scored one run in the top of the third.
ECC loaded up the bases again in the bottom of the inning with a double from Andew Flynn, walk from Aiden Kashuba and a single from Nelson. Charlie Jury hit his second grand slam of the season to extend the lead to 8-3.
OHC scored its final run of the game in the fourth.
Kerno hit his third homerun of the season in the bottom of the inning.
Josh Collins hit his first triple of the year and scored on Lara's hit. Nick Weaver earned a walk and Andrew Flynn hit a two-run double to push Lara and Weaver across.
Julian Sturtevant was hit by a pitch, Jack Keck walked and Quinn Butera singled to lead off the sixth. Weaver singled to left field to score two runs and 10-run rule the Panthers for a 14-4 final score.
Game Two: OHC 10, ECC 11
Ty Sierpien earned his first win of the season, striking out two batters in two innings.
Nelson hit the walk-off homerun to clinch the victory.
Weaver singled to left and advanced to second on a passed ball before stealing third during Josh Genz's at-bat and scoring on Flynn's sacrifice fly. Genz also stole third and scored on Kashuba's ground out for a 2-0 lead after one inning.
Weaver led off the third with a triple and scored on Kashuba's sacrifice fly.
Olive Harvey had a six-run fifth inning and scored two in the top of the sixth for an 8-3 advantage.
ECC scored six of its own in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer from Nelson, one-run double from Kerno, Weaver earned an RBI on a walk and Genz hit a two-RBI single to take back the lead at 9-8.
OHC scored two in the seventh to lead 10-9.
Kashuba led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and Nelson hit his second home run of the game to clinch the walk-off win.
The Spartans travel to Prairie State for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
