
Joliet, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team won its eighth-straight game with two victories at Joliet on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 16-12 in their overall record.
Game One: ECC 10, JJC 5
Jack Kerno scored a pair of runs with Patrick Nelson and Chris Lara tallying two RBI apiece.
Sean Riordan picked up his first win of the season, pitching 1.2 innings and registering one strikeout.
Kerno doubled and scored on Aiden Kashuba's hit to put the first run on the board in the top of the first inning.
Kerno hit another double and advanced to third on Andrew Flynn's single to left field. Nelson's two-run single extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third.
Joliet tied the game up at 3-3 after four innings.
Two were hit by a pitch, two walked and three hit singles to bring in five runs in the fifth.
The Wolves scored two runs in the sixth to tighten the score up to 8-5 after six innings.
Chris Lara led off the seventh by getting hit by a pitch. Kerno singled to short and an error advanced to third on an error with Lara scoring a run. Flynn hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the 10th run and clinch the 10-5 victory.
Game Two: ECC 11, JJC 4
Ryan Caccia hit for the cycle and recorded three runs and four RBI. Edgar Barba earned his second win of the season, striking out three batters in 4.1 innings.
JJC scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead.
Caccia hit a solo homer to get things started in the top of the third. Lara followed up with a walk and was out on Weaver's fielder's choice. Josh Genz singled and Weaver scored on Flynn's RBI single to center field. Kashuba reached on an error, allowing Genz to score and take the lead at 3-2.
Jury and Eli Johnson earned back-to-back walks to lead off the fourth inning. Both advanced on a wild pitch during Caccia's at-bat, as Jury scored and Johnson made it to third on Caccia's single. The Spartans now had a 5-2 advantage after four innings.
Joliet scored two runs in the fifth to tighten the game up to 5-4.
Johnson walked and scored on Caccia's triple. Lara hit a sacrifice bunt, allowing Caccia to score. Weaver walked and stole second as Genz followed with his own walk. Flynn hit it into a fielder's choice, pushing Weaver to third base. Kashuba hit it into a one-run single to extend the lead to 8-4.
Jury led off the seventh with a walk as Quinn Butera came in to pinch run. Butera stole second and scored on Caccia's double. This marked Caccia hitting for the cycle. Caccia advanced toi third on an error and scored on Lara's single to right field. Lara advanced to second on a passed ball and Weaver followed with a walk. Lara scored on an error as the game finished with an 11-4 final score.
The Spartans are back on the road to face Lake County in a pair of games on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
