
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team beat Morton in two games on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 14-12 overall and 5-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play.
Game One: MC 2, ECC 9
Aiden Kashuba led the offense with his fourth home run of the season, totaling three RBI and two runs.
Troy Petty picked up his second win as he recorded six strikeouts in seven innings.
Nick Weaver and Jack Kerno were both hit by a pitch to get on base. Both advanced on a wild pitch during Andrew Flynn's at bat. Flynn and Kashuba each grounded out to take an early 2-0 lead after one inning.
Daniel Blickhan led off the fourth with a double while Josh Collins reached on a dropped third pitch. Blickhan scored on Lara's hit and Weaver hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the fourth run.
Morton scored two runs in the top of the fifth.
Flynn and Kashuba were hit by a pitch and Jury walked to load the bases in the bottom of the inning. Flynn scored on a wild pitch as Kashuba advanced to third. He scored on a passed ball to make it a 6-2 ball game.
Chris Lara led off the sixth with a single, stole second and scored on Kerno's groundout. Flynn singled before Kashuba hit a two-run homer to extend ECC's lead to 9-2.
Petty had three up and three down to clinch the win.
Game Two: MC 1, ECC 11
Daniel Kinney earned his first win of the season, going the complete five innings and registering four strikeouts.
Flynn scored three runs as Jury, Josh Genz and Ryan Caccia tallied two RBI apiece.
Elgin scored two runs in the first with one-run singles from Patrick Nelson and Charlie Jury.
Kashuba singled to lead off the third and scored on Jury's first triple of the season. Genz followed up with an RBI single for the 4-0 advantage.
Morton scored its sole run of the game in the fourth inning.
Weaver earned a walk and advanced to second on Jack Kerno's sacrifice. Flynn singled and both advanced on a wild pitch. Kashuba hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Weaver to score. Nelson walked and before Flynn scored on a wild pitch. Genz hit his second RBI single for Nelson to score. Caccia earned a walk to load the bases and Lara registered a one-run single to hold an 8-1 lead after four innings.
Kerno led off the fifth with a triple and scored on Flynn's double to right field. Julian Sturtevant hit a single and Nelson loaded the bases with a walk. Caccia hit a walk-off double to 10-run rule the team and end with an 11-1 victory.
The Spartans are on the road to face Joliet in a doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
