Jury Hits Walk-off Grand Slam; Spartans Sweep COD

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team picked up two wins over College of DuPage of Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to .500 with a 12-12 record.

Game One: COD 3, ECC 16

Charlie Jury led the offense with a grand slam, three runs and five RBI. Aiden Kashuba also hit a home run and tallied three runs and two RBI.

Lucas Aguirre picked up his third win from the mound, recording four strikeouts in five innings.

DuPage scored its three runs of the game in the first.

The Spartans countered in the bottom of the inning as they recorded six singles, one double, two walks and four were hit by a pitch in the nine-run inning.

Jury walked and Josh Collins singled before advancing on a wild pitch to lead off the second. Nick Weaver hit an RBI single to bring in a run.

Kashuba hit a solo homer to make it a 12-3 game after three innings.

Andrew Flynn walked, Kashuba reached on an error and Patrick Nelson walked to load up the bases in the bottom of the fifth. Jury hit a walk-off grand slam to 10-run rule the Chaps and clinch the 16-3 victory.

Game Two: COD 6, ECC 14

Weaver led off and recorded three runs, as Kashuba and Jury led the team in RBI with two apiece.

Noah Schlup clinched his third win of the season, recording two strikeouts in one inning.

COD scored first with a run in the top of the second.

Josh Genz doubled and advanced to third on a pased ball in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Caccia hit an RBI single to tie up the game.

Weaver and Jack Kerno hit back-to-back singles to lead off the third. Each advanced in Andrew Flynn's groundout and Weaver scored on a wild pitch to lead 2-1.

DuPage had a big fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.

ECC's bats were hot as they tallied 12 runs thanks to patience at the plate as they earned eight walks and three were hit by a pitch.

The game ended early due to darkness, but resulted in the Spartans sweeping the Chaps with a 14-6 final score.

The Spartans host Morton for a pair of games on Saturday at noon.
