Angelo Surpasses 800 Career Wins

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team swept Oakton in a pair of games. The first victory marked Head Coach Bill Angelo's 800th career win.

The Spartans improve to 10-12 overall and 3-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play.

Game One: OCC 1, ECC 12

Three hit home runs, including Nick Weaver with a grand slam, Aiden Kashuba with a two-run and Charlie Jury with one that brought in three runs.

Edgar Barba completed the five-inning game with his first win of the season and six strikeouts.

Weaver singled in the first and scored on Andrew Flynn's line drive to left field.

Kashuba's homer increased the lead to three before Oakton made it a 3-1 game in the top of the fourth.

Jack Kerno and Jury singled and Josh Genz walked to lead-off the bottom of the inning. Chris Lara earned an RBI walk as Weaver followed up with a grand slam. Flynn reached on an error and scored on Patrick Nelson's double. Kerno was hit by a pitch and Jury followed with a three-run homer to make it a 12-1 game after four innings.

OCC could not come back as Elgin clinched the victory in five innings.

Game Two: OCC 5, ECC 15

Troy Petty also clinched his first victory of the season, recording seven strikeouts in five innings.

Weaver continued to have a day, collecting five RBI from a pair of singles and his first collegiate triple. 

Two walks and two hit by pitches scored ECC's first run of the game. Kerno scored on a wild pitch as Jury's sacrifice fly pushed another run across. Daniel Blickhan hit an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game after one.

The Owls scored one run in the top of the second inning.

Flynn, Kashuba and Nelson loaded the bases in the third. Jury recorded his second RBI of the game with a walk. Kashuba scored on a wild pitch and Lara earned another one-run walk before Weaver hit it into a two-run single to left field to lead 8-1.

Blickhan tallied his second RBI single before Ryan Caccia walked to load the bases yet again in the bottom of the fourth. Weaver's triple to center field allowed all three to score. Eli Johnson walked and Ty Sierpien hit back-to-back one-run singles for Elgin's 14th run of the game.

Oakton scored four runs in the top of the fifth to force the game into the bottom of the inning.

Josh Collins led off with a double and Blickhan was hit by a pitch to lead off. Caccia hit it into a fielder's choice as Blickhan was out at second. Lara hit the walk-off single to end the game after five innings with a 15-5 victory.

The Spartans host College of DuPage for a pair of games on Thursday at 2 p.m.
