
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Waubonsee on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 8-12 overall and 1-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play.
Game One: Waubonsee 3, Elgin 6
Josh Collins and Patrick Nelson registered two RBI on the day with Jack Kerno bringing in three runs.
Drew Piaskowy picked up his second win of the season, pitching six innings and recording six strikeouts.
Jack Kerno led off the bottom of the second inning on a walk and stole second during Nelson's at-bat. Charlie Jury's single advanced him to third, and Collins hit an RBI single for the first run of the game.
Andrew Flynn and Kerno each walked in the third, and Nelson's double to left field allowed Flynn to score for a 2-0 lead.
Waubonsee scored one run to tighten it to a 2-1 game before a balk earned ECC's third run after four innings.
The Chiefs tied it up 3-3 in the top of the fifth.
Three walks in a row loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning. Chris Lara earned a walk and Collins hit it into a sacrifice fly to take back the lead at 5-3.
Kerno walked, stole second and scored on Nelson's single for the sixth and final run of the game.
Game Two: Waubonsee 8, Elgin 6
Nick Weaver went 3-for-4 with one RBI as Nelson went 2-for-3 and tallied two RBI. Andrew Sloan recorded three strikeouts in two innings on the mound.
WCC scored one run in the first before ECC tied it up in the second. Nelson and Peter Mitchell hit back-to-back singles to score the run.
The Chiefs took a 6-1 lead in the top of the third inning.
Elgin loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with a double from Weaver and walks for Flynn and Aiden Kashuba. Nelson hit it into a two-run single to tighten it up to 6-3.
Waubonsee scored one in the top of the fourth inning.
Lara earned a walk, stole second and advanced to third while Collins made it to first on an error in the bottom of the sixth. Weaver's single pushed Lara home and Kashuba hit it into a sacrifice fly to trail by just two after six innings.
WCC scored on an error for its eighth run in the top of the seventh.
ECC scored one in the bottom of the inning, but came up just short in the 8-6 loss.
The Spartans host Oakton for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
