Baseball Splits at Triton

River Grove, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Triton on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans move to 6-10 in their overall record.

Game One: ECC 13, Triton 2

Drew Piaskowy earned his first win of the season, pitching all five innings and tallying five strikeouts. 

Nick Weaver went 4-for-5, registering two singles and two doubles. Patrick Nelson recorded three RBI with his pair of triples.

Weaver and Aiden Kashuba hit singles and Weaver scored on a wild pitch during Charlie Jury's at-bat which earned him a walk. Kashuba and Jury scored on Nelson's triple for a 3-0 lead.

Josh Genz made it to second on an error to lead off the second and scored on a single from Weaver for the fourth run in the second.

Jury singled and Josh Collins walked and both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Genz hit it into a one-run single to take a 5-0 advantage in the top of the third.

Triton homered for a 5-1 score after three innings.

Weaver led off the fourth with a double, followed by a double from Kashuba and triple from Nelson. Collins was hit by a pitch and Eli Johnson hit an RBI single to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Spartans had a five-run fifth inning with RBIs from Kashuba, Jury, Collins and Genz.

Triton scored one run in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough as ECC clinched the 13-2 victory in five innings.

Game Two: ECC 6, Triton 7

Nelson went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, registering three RBI. Edgar Barba made the start on the mound, recording five strikeouts in five innings. Daniel Kinney came in for relief and tallied two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

Kashuba singled and Nelson doubled to get on base in the top of the second inning. Genz hit a two-run single for an early 2-0 advantage.

Andrew Flynn doubled and scored on Nelson's single to lead 3-0 after three innings.

The Trojans scored one in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.

Elgin countered in the top of the seventh with RBIs from Kashuba and Nelson to hold a 6-5 advantage heading into the bottom of the final inning.

Triton loaded the bases, scored on a hit by pitch to tie, and hit a walk-off single to clinch the 7-6 win.

The Spartans are back on the road to face Harper in a single game on Thursday at 3 p.m.
