
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Milwaukee Tech on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 5-6 overall in their 2024 campaign.
Game One: MATC 1, ECC 6
Lucas Aguirre earned his first win of the season, recording six strikeouts in five innings. Daniel Kinney came in for relief and struckout all three batters in the top of the seventh.
Patrick Nelson and Nick Weaver recorded their first home runs of the season. Weaver and Josh Collins tallied two RBI as Nelson led the team with two runs.
Milwaukee scored its sole run in the top of the first inning.
Aiden Kashuba and Andrew Flynn led off the bottom of the second with a pair of singles. During Nelson's at-bat, Kashuba scored on a wild pitch while Flynn advanced to third on the same pitch. Josh Collins hit a two-run single to take the 3-1 advantage after two.
Weaver homered in the bottom of the third and Nelson hit his to lead off the sixth inning. The bases loaded up and Weaver hit an RBI single for the sixth and final run of the game.
Game Two: MATC 10, ECC 5
Kashuba led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, one run and four RBI.
The Stormers had a big start, scoring nine runs in three innings.
Weaver and Kashuba hit back-to-back doubles to put a run on the board in the bottom of the third.
MATC scored one more in the top of the six to take a 10-1 advantage.
ECC finished out strong, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jaden Alberson, Charlie Jury and Ryan Caccia got on base and all scored on Kashuba's triple to center field. Kashuba then scored on a wild pitch for the fifth run.
The Spartans are back on the road to face Carl Sandburg for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
