Spartans go 1-3 in Opening Weekend

Millington, Tenn. - The Elgin Community College baseball team opened its season with a 1-3 record.

Game One: ECC 5, No. 7 Southeastern 15

Game Two: Indian Hills 8, ECC 2

Game Three: ECC 1, Volunteer State 12

Game Four: ECC 8, Southwest Tennessee 2

Aiden Kashuba went 3-for-4 to earn one run and two RBI. Aidan Stratton earned his first win on the mound after recording two strikeouts and only allowing one hit in two iinings.

Elgin loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with a sinlge from Andrew Flynn, Josh Collins being hit by a pitch and Chris Lara earning a walk. Flynn scored on a passed ball and Nick Weaver's sacrifice fly brought in Collins. Kashuba's double scored the third run followed by singles from Jack Kerno and Eli Johnson to end the inning with five runs.

STCC countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 5-2 game.

Jaden Alberson led off the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second after Kashuba was hit by a pitch. Alberson made it to third on on Kerno's fly out to center field and scored on Johnson's sacrifice bunt.

ECC scored two more for good measure in the top of the ninth. Flynn singled and advanced to second before scoring on a passed ball during Lara's at bat. Alberson grounded into a fielder's choice and scored on Kashuba's single to left field. The game would end in an 8-2 final score for the first win of the season.

The Spartans play four games back in Tennessee this weekend.
