
Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Highland on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 19-25 overall as the Cougars move to 25-23.
Game 1: HCC 3, ECC 7
Erik Teran II recorded two RBI and one run as Jack Keck brought in two runs and one RBI. Adrian Ruiz earned his fourth win of the season.
Nathan Euliano, Logan Riley and Ryan Caccia loaded the bases in the second inning. Keck and Jaden Alberson hit back-to-back one-run singles to push the first two runs across the plate. Teran singled to left field allowing Keck and Alberson to score and make it a 0-4 game.
Highland scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Crofoot led off the fourth with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on Teran's fielder's choice and stole home for to increase the lead to 1-5.
Keck singled in the fifth and stole second before scoring on Alberson's hard ground ball.
Elgin's final run came in the sixth after Teran was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on Euliano's walk and scored on Riley's line drive for a 3-7 final score.
Game 2: HCC 6, ECC 4
Euliano led the offense with three RBI and his second home run of the season. Drew Piaskowy made the start and tallied five strikeouts in five innings.
The Cougars put the first run on the board in the top of the first before Elgin countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Gavin Crofoot hit his sixth double of the season to start the inning and scored on Teran's single to center field to tie it up 1-1.
HCC scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
Euliao hit a huge three-run homer to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of six.
Highland found two runs in the top of the seventh and ECC was unable to catch up as they fell 6-4.
The Spartans host Harper for a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
