Baseball Splits at Olive-Harvey

Chicago, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 4-0 in game one before rallying for a 9-5 victory over Olive-Harvey on Friday.

The Spartans move to 20-14 as the Panthers move to 4-26.

Game 1: Olive-Harvey 4, Elgin 0

Luis Rodriguez led the team with two hits as Nick Schumann, Mauricio Grosso and Logan Riley each registered one. Nik Panico and Jake Gray each struckout two batters.

Olive-Harvey scored three runs in the third inning and one in the sixth to earn the win.

Game 2: Elgin 9, Olive-Harvey 5

Rodriguez, Schumann and Lorenzo Ranallo tallied two hits as Riley and Eli Johnson hit one. Schumann led the team with three RBI with his home run.

Isaac Kopalchick earned his first win in five innings on the mound and four strikeouts.

Derek Angelo walked, advanced to second on Erik Teran II's groundout and scored on Johnson's hard ground ball to put the first run on the board in the second inning.

Elgin had a huge fourth inning with eight runs on two outs. Angelo walked, Teran reached on an error and Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Angelo scored on a wild pitch as the other two advanced one base. Riley and Rodriguez hit RBI singles for the fifth run of the game.

Ranallo scored on an error before Schumann hit his sixth home run of the season to wrap the inning with a 9-0 advantage.

Olive-Harvey scored one run in the fifth and four in the seventh before Elgin clinched the 9-5 win.

The Spartans travel to Kankakee on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
