Baseball Wins Eighth-Straight Game

Palatine, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team won its eighth-straight game with a 21-12 victory over Harper on Tuesday.

The Spartans improve to 19-12 as the Hawks dip to 8-31.

Nik Panico and Erik Teran II led the team with four hits and three RBI apiece. Adrian Ruiz earned the win with five innings pitched and four strikeouts.

Luis Rodriguez, Nick Schumann, Derek Angelo and Teran singled in the first inning to bring in three runs. They scored two more runs in the second inning with Scott Emma's fielder's choice, singles from Rodriguez and Nik Panico, a walk for Schumann and a sacrifice fly from Angelo.

Elgin scored four runs in the third after Riley and Rodriguez hit RBI doubles, Emma's groundout scored a run and a one-run single from Panico.

Harper scored runs in the first and third for a 9-2 game after three innings.

Riley and Emma brought in runs with a sacrifice fly and RBI single in the fourth and Panico hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Teran scored the 13th run in the seventh after his single, stealing second, advancing to third on an error and Riley's ground ball.

The Hawks tightened the game up to 13-9 after scoring runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Graham Rachow hit an RBI double before he and Teran scored on wild pitches in the top of the eighth.

Riley and Emma walked and advanced on a wild pitch with Rachow's single bringing Riley home. Lorenzo Ranallo and Mauricio Grosso earned RBI walks with Rachow scoring on Teran's single and Ranallo scoring on a wild pitch to wrap the five-run inning.

Harper scored three runs in the ninth before ECC clinched the 21-12 victory.

The Spartans travel to Joliet, Ill. for a single game against Joliet Junior College on Thursday at 2 p.m.
