West Dundee, Ill. - Sophomore Brandon Jakl finished second at the Elgin Community College Invite on Wednesday.
Jakl shot a 73, one over par and one stroke behind the winner, to improve his previous career-best of 82. He led the field of 21 after the first nine holes with a 35, before shooting a 38 on the back-nine.
Trevor Book totaled an 85, cutting 10 strokes off of last week's score, to finish 14th.
The Spartans travel to Morton on Wednesday, Sept. 7 with a 12:30 p.m. tee-off time.
