Men's Hoops Downed by No. 1 Milwaukee

Milwaukee, Wis. - The Elgin Community College men's basketball team opened its season with a 122-95 loss to No. 1 Milwaukee Tech on Wednesday afternoon.

Five players scored double digits included Gabe Wright (24), Meek Ater and Ian Smith (14) and Derryl Gaddi and Isaiah Smith with 13. Ater recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Other team leaders included Elias Cole-Williams in steals (five) and Marty McCarthy in assists (four) and blocks (one).

Elgin fought back from a 0-10 deficit to tie it up at 16-16 five minutes later. They stayed within six points until taking their first lead of the game at 37-36 with six minutes remaining in the half. Milwaukee then pulled away with a 6-24 run to enter halftime with a 43-61 advantage.

MATC held at least a 16-point lead for the remainder of the game to result in a 122-99 loss.

The Spartans host Triton on Friday at 7 p.m.
