Men's Hoops Falls in Overtime

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College men's basketball team was edged 90-89 by Moraine Valley on Tuesday night.

The Spartans move to 8-9 overall and 0-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Cyclones improve to 12-3 and 1-0.

Four players scored double digits including Dorien Little (27), Jadon Melvin (19), John Gray III (15) and Bryce Reynolds (13).

Team leaders included Reynolds in rebounds (nine), Carson Seyller and Trenton Shelton in assists (four) and Melvin in steals (two).

ECC led 25-13 about halfway through the first period before MVCC hit 15-point and 10-point runs for a 38-27 advantage with six minutes remaining in the half.

The Spartans chipped away at the deficit to enter halftime at a 47-47 tie.

Moraine Valley controlled the first eight minutes before Elgin scored six unanswered points to tie it up at 63-63 with 9:34 left in regulation.

The back and forth of the game continued with the Cyclones scoring nine-straight points followed by 12 points from ECC, including two three pointers from Melvin and five points from Little.

A shot in the paint with three seconds remaining from MVCC forced the game into overtime.

Elgin led by as many as four after six points from Gray and Little with two minutes remaining in extra minutes.

MVCC hit a three and a layup to seal the 90-89 overtime win.

The Spartans travel to Chicago Heights to face Prairie State on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
