Men's Basketball Drops Three at Weekend Tourney

Freeport, Ill. - The Elgin Community College men's basketball team lost three games at the Highland College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans move to 7-7 in their overall season.

Game 1: Olive-Harvey 81, Elgin 80

Jadon Melvin scored a season-high 28 points to lead the team. DaRon Hall scored 23 points and tallied a team-best nine rebounds and seven assists. Bryce Reynolds also scored double-digits with ten points.

ECC trailed 54-32 at halftime, but chipped away at the deficit to take an 80-79 lead with 2.7 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the Panthers found an opening and scored a game-winner to send the Spartans to the losing bracket.

Game 2: Truman 76, Elgin 71

Top scorers included Melvin (21), Dorien Little (19) and Hall (15). Melvin grabbed the team-high eight rebounds as Hall and Little each recorded four assists.

The game entered halftime with a 29-29 tie with the remainder of the game going back and forth until Truman pulled away for a five-point win.

Game 3: Rock Valley 86, Elgin 71

Four players scored double-digits including Hall (19), Melvin (13), John Gray III (11) and Little (10). Team leaders were Melvin 

Gray and Cam Ranson made their first starts of the season in the contest.

The Spartans host Kishwaukee on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
