Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College men's basketball team clinched an 86-48 victory over Judson JV on Tuesday night.

The Spartans start their 2022-23 campaign with a 1-0 record.

Elgin shot 53.7 percent from the floor and grabbed 54 rebounds, which is higher than every game from last season.

Team leaders included Dorien Little and Chase Travis in points (12), Will Christie in three-pointers (three) and steals (three), Bryce Reynolds in the rebounds (eight) and John Gray III in steals (three). All 14 players scored at least two points.

ECC maintained the lead for the entirety of the game after just four minutes of play.

The Spartans hit a 10-point swing with points from five different players to take a 28-13 lead with 8:07 remaining in the first half.

Minutes later, the Eagles tightened the score up a bit with eight unanswered points with three minutes to play. Elgin countered with eight of their own from four individuals, showing off their shooting game.

Melvin hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to enter halftime with a 46-27 advantage.

Little scored six points in a row followed by another six unanswered points from the team to start out hot in the second half.

Elgin continued to dominate throughout the half to clinch the 86-48 win.

The Spartans are back at home on Thursday to face No. 5 Milwaukee Area Technical College at 7 p.m.
